RSE Special Issue - Earth Observation of Essential Climate Variables

by journals.elsevier.com — 2016-03-02 16:33:48

This Special Issue aims to demonstrate how Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) can be generated from Earth Observation data, as well as the use of those variables in climate modelling and other climate-related applications. The special issue is mainly focused on the Climate Change Initiative (CCI) program of the European Space Agency (ESA). External papers to the CCI program are welcomed if they substantially use ESA CCI program generated datasets, which are freely available via the CCI data access portal.

Schedule and deadlines for authors who plan to contribute to the Special Issue (SI):

  1. Abstracts: The first step is to submit an abstract with tentative publication title, main author (name, institution and e-mail address) and short paper overview. The purpose of the abstract is to find out if the planned paper is appropriate for the SI (see Scope). Format: single page pdf file in free format. Submission period: 1 March - 31 May 2016. Authors will be informed by the Editorial Board if the proposed paper is eligible to be included in the review process.
  2. Submission of papers: Authors who have been informed that their proposed paper is eligible for the SI (see "1. Abstracts") can submit full papers during the submission period 1 June 2016 - 1 October 2016. The authors are kindly requested to follow RSE author guidelines. Papers submitted after 1 October 2016 will not be considered for the SI.
  3. Final publication: The printed version of the Special Issue will likely be available in the last quarter of 2017, assuming the standard length of the review process. However, accepted papers (after type-setting and proof-reading) will be made available as (citable) pre-print pdf file shortly (typically within a few weeks) after they have been accepted.
